So, it all started one day with my best
friend saying, "Look at what I learned today in my new belly dance
class". I thought it was amazing that she learned to move her
body that way - instantly I thought I could never do that. I
didn't think it was possible for someone my size to move my body
confidently. I don't think I even wanted to try... at first. I
was on a journey and a recent weight loss had me feeling good about
myself, but not that good.
A Couple months later she took me to a Belly
Jam, a what? A Belly Jam. It was a showcase of belly
dancers, who knew? I never heard of it before. Well,
moments after the show started, I was hooked. It got me.
I was mesmerized. I can't believe that one woman even brought
me to tears. I saw women of all shapes, sizes and ages
joyously dancing and loving it. Maybe I could do that.
Through my bestie, I found Tribal Bellies
Studio. It's been about 5 years of dancing under the direction
of Vikki Gale of Hipnosis, and I couldn't be happier. It has
been an amazing process - one marked with challenges to overcome and
victories to celebrate. I don't think I could have found
something better for my mind, body and soul. Belly dancing has
changed my life.
Vikki wasn't my only teacher. It would be
a terrible disservice if I didn't thank the amazing community of
women I have met along the way. Please know that you all have
taught me something... if not about dance - about life.
When I am not dancing, I try to fill my time
with my family and friends. I am in the process of planning my
wedding with my soon-to-be husband Jason. I savor the time
when it's just us at home with our two kids - 2 of the most lovable
pit bulls ever, Maddie and Dozer. We enjoy hopping on his
Harley for a long ride, for charity or fun. I sometimes enjoy
acting like a singer. I heart Sushi. I'm never too
serious, cause it's way too short and I am always, always grateful
for the wonderful gifts I have in my life.
